TOM BRADY BUYS A PICKLEBALL TEAM
In a growing line up of sports stars and celebrities that have gotten involved in pickleball, this last October, seven-time Super Bowl champion Tom Brady and four-time major tennis champion Kim Clijsters were announced as part of an ownership group for a Major League Pickleball (MLP) expansion team. Led by Knighthead Capital Management, the duo is eager to invest their combined experience in pickleball and professional sports into shaping this exciting new venture while helping bring top-level competition to fans across the country.
Excited about her investment opportunities alongside some of her best friends, Clijsters shared: “What excites me most is that I get to help shape the future of pickleball with great people…I’m thrilled to help showcase professional pickleball and make an impact on the sport through my experience gained in the top levels of professional tennis.”
The league, which was founded in 2021, will expand from its current 12 teams to 16 in 2023, as well as double its annual events to six. MLP said prize money is expected to surpass $2 million next season.
The 2022 MLP season concluded October 14th weekend in Columbus, Ohio.
